Prepare a proposal and budget for a program that is either action-based or will create tangible results in the interest of helping to protect the environment to be initiated and make significant progress towards completion by Earth Month (April) 2010 (an “Eco-Program”).
1. HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR GRANT PROPOSAL: Any undergraduate or graduate students in good academic standing who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and enrolled as full-time or part-time students in an accredited secondary (post-high school) college or university in the United States (each a “Student”) may submit a proposal following the submission guidelines below.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Each Eco-Program proposal submitted must include the Student’s (i) full name, (ii) date of birth, (iii) telephone number, (iv) email address, (v) hometown state and city, (vi) his/her campus address, (vii) the name, city and state of the educational institution attending, (viii) the name, title and telephone number of at least one (1) administration or educational school faculty member (“School Representative”) who will support the Student’s commitment to execute his/her Eco-Program proposal within the time and budget outlined (should it be selected) and (ix) Eco-Program proposal (description must be no more than 4,000 characters in length - with spaces), accompanied by an Eco-Program budget (no more than 3,000 characters in length - with spaces) and an Eco-Program timeline (no more than 3,000 characters in length - with spaces), all required submission materials collectively comprising your, “Submission”. Submissions must be submitted either a) online through the www.filterforgood.com web site using the form provided no later than 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on November 6, 2009 (the “Submission Deadline”), or b) by mail using typed, double-spaced format, in an envelope with proper postage and addressed to: Edelman, attn: Becky Verhey, 200 E. Randolph Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60601 on or before the Submission Deadline. Mail-in Submissions must be postmarked by October 30, 2009 and received by November 13, 2009 to be eligible for consideration. Each Submission must be the Student’s original, previous un-published work, and may not violate, or infringe upon the rights, including without limitation, copyrights, trademark rights, rights of publicity/privacy, or other proprietary rights, of any person or entity, as determined by the Program Administrator (defined below) in its sole discretion.Submissions must be suitable for publication (i.e. not obscene, offensive or indecent). Incomplete, illegible or postage due Submissions and Submissions not meeting the above submission guideline may not be considered eligible, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Program Administrator (defined below). No correspondence regarding the status of any Submission will be acknowledged or responded to, except in the event the Program Administrator, in its sole discretion, requires clarification regarding any Submission. Submissions become the property of Program Sponsor (defined below) and will not be returned.
The Brita Products Company (“Program Sponsor” ), Daniel J. Edelman, Inc. (“Program Administrator”), and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, volunteers and interns, (collectively the, “Releasees”) are not responsible for late, lost, incomplete, illegible, stolen, damaged or misdirected Submissions, incorrect or inaccurate transcription of Submission information, or for any human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access any Web site or online service, or any other error or malfunction. Submission materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. Proof of mailing does not constitute proof of delivery or receipt.
2. GRANT SUBMISSION EVALUATION CRITERIA: Each eligible Submission received and complying with the above submission guidelines will be evaluated based on the following criteria: “creativity” (25%), “benefit to the environment” (25%), “educational impact” (25%), “efficient/effective use of budget” (15%) and “timing feasibility” (10%). The Submissions will be evaluated by a judging panel comprised of representatives of Program Sponsor and Program Administrator whose decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to the Program. Once all eligible Submissions received have been evaluated, those Students submitting the top five (5) highest-ranked Submissions, based on the above criteria, will each receive one (1) Grant to be used toward implementing their specific Eco-Program proposal. In the event of a tie, the judges will re-evaluate the tied Submissions and select from among them based on the Submission with the highest ranking in the “benefit to the environment” category.
3. GRANTS: Grant funding amounts and disbursements (“Grants”) will be administered in a manner that will reasonably and appropriately fund the Student’s Eco-Program, in the Program Sponsor’s sole discretion. Up to five (5) Grants of up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) USD each may be disbursed. All Grants will be disbursed to the Student andschool in care of the designated School Representative, and must be used to implement the Student’s Eco-Program proposal.No more than one (1) Grant will be disbursed per student/school.Total amount of Grant funding intended to be disbursed under this Program is fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) USD. If any Grant is deemed taxable, all applicable federal, state, local taxes and other expenses incurred are the responsibility of each individual Grant recipient. Each Student Grant recipient may be required to provide Program Sponsor with his/her social security number and other applicable tax information prior to Grant disbursement and Grant recipient may receive an IRS Form 1099 or equivalent from Program Sponsor. Limit one Grant per school. No substitution, cash equivalent or transfer of Grant is permitted. All Eco-Program proposals selected for Grant support must be initiated by April 22, 2010 in accordance with the Use of Grants section below.
4. ELIGIBILITY: Employees, volunteers, interns and agents of Program Sponsor, Program Administrator, and each of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, and their immediate families (spouse, parents, children, and siblings and their respective spouses) and individuals living in the same households of such persons are ineligible to submit and Eco-Program proposal. This Program is subject to all applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations. By submitting a Submission you agree to be bound by these Program Guidelines and to accept the decisions of the Program Sponsor and Program Administrator as final and binding in all matters relating to this Program.
If the Program Sponsor or Program Administrator determine, in their sole discretion, that there is any suspected tampering with the administration of the Program, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Program, they each reserve the right, respectively and jointly, to disqualify the Submission(s) at issue and/or terminate the Program (or any portion thereof) and evaluate those eligible Submissions received as of the date requiring such termination action. If the Program is terminated prior to the published Submission Deadline, or otherwise prior to the selection of all Grant recipients, notice will be posted on www.filterforgood.com. Any attempt to deliberately damage the content or operation of the Program is unlawful and subject to legal action by the Program Sponsor or its agents. Additionally, any plagiarism or other action in violation of any applicable student ethics code will disqualify a Submission and may subject the Student to potential discipline under that code.
5. TO CLAIM GRANT: Potential Student Grant recipients and the designated School Representative will be notified by email, or by telephone and/or by first-class mail on or about January 29, 2010. Potential Student Grant recipients may be required to complete and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability, and where legal, a Publicity Release, which must be returned within fourteen (14) days of attempted notification. If the affidavit and release are not returned within the time period allotted, properly executed or is returned as undeliverable, or if the potential Student Grant recipient cannot be contacted, is contacted and does not otherwise respond to the attempted notification as directed within the time allotted the Grant will be forfeited and an alternate Student Grant recipient may be selected.
6. USE OF GRANTS: All Grants must be used in connection with initiating and making significant progress towards completing the Eco-Program as set forth in its proposal on or before April 22, 2010. Student Grant recipients may be required to provide written or oral status reports, including budget reports and receipts to Program Sponsor to evidence appropriate use of the Grant. Student Grant recipients may additionally be asked to draft blog entries to be posted on www.filterforgood.com providing the status of their Eco-Program on or before dates chosen by Program Sponsor, and to capture and document their work once monthly using video and or camera images and to provide these images to the Program Sponsor and/or Program Administrator upon request. Failure of any Student Grant recipient to provide Program Sponsor and/or Program Administrator with Eco-Program status updates as requested may result in suspension or termination of Grant disbursements, in Program Sponsor’s sole discretion.
7. LIMITATIONS: Releasees are not responsible for any typographical or other errors in printing, the offering or administration of the promotion, or in the announcement, disbursement, or acceptance of Grant funds. Releasees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind resulting from participation in the Program, or from the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the Grant funds, or the execution or implementation of any Eco-Program proposal (including, without limitation, any travel related thereto). Selection for any Grant shall not be considered an endorsement of the Eco-Program proposal by Program Sponsor or Program Administrator.
8. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Each Student submitting a Submission agrees (i) that his/her Submission is an original work; and (ii) to irrevocably assign and transfer all rights, titles and interest in and to the Submission, supporting materials and photographs or videos taken of the development of the Eco-Program (collectively, “Materials”), including but not limited to, copyrights to Program Sponsor. Each Student submitting a Submission further agrees that Program Sponsor and/or its designees shall have the right, but not the obligation, to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such Materials, or any part thereof, in any way and in any medium, including the Internet, with or without attribution, notification, and without compensation to the Student, except where prohibited by law. Each Student submitting a Submission agrees and represents that the Materials, and the Program Sponsor’s use thereof, will not violate, or infringe upon the rights, including without limitation, copyrights, trademark rights, rights of publicity/privacy, or other proprietary rights, of any third parties. Student Grant recipients are responsible for any expenses relating to the acceptance or use of Grants. Student Grant recipients may be filmed, interviewed and/or photographed in connection with their Eco-Program proposal and/or Grant selection. Student Grant recipients grant Program Sponsor permission to use his/her name, image, voice, likeness in connection with promoting their Eco-Program and/or the Program and any of Program Sponsor’s advertising or promotional activities, including online announcements, without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law.
9. GRANT RECIPIENT LIST: The names of the selected Student Grant recipients will be posted on www.filterforgood.com on or about February 15, 2010.
