I write a website about obesity and weight loss issues. One of the big issues for our obese community is diabetes, and this is National Diabetes Awareness Month.

In conjunction with this month, I was given the opportunity to give away a couple pairs of specially-made diabetic shoes, from the crocs company. Cool, right? Giving stuff away is always fun.

It’s time to bring even greater awareness and attention to the seriousness of diabetes, its deadly complications and the importance of proper diabetes control**.

Many people get Type II diabetes under control with weight loss surgery**. It’s now considered a way to put it in pretty much instant remission. But, diabetes is a huge problem in our particular morbidly obese and formerly morbidly obese community, and in our children.

Learning all you can about avoiding this sometimes lifestyle disease is a huge plus.

If you’re dealing with diabetes, sometimes you deal with severe foot problems. Other medical conditions, can effect your feet, even after WLS, some of us are dealing with neuropathy.

Crocs has a shoe line for achy feets**.

Want a pair, I have two pairs to give away. (They will be shipped directly to you in your preference/size.) If you want to enter, you can do so at my personal blog**.

But what I wanted to share with you here at FFG? These shoes have their own RECYCLING** program. When your croc shoes are worn out, you can donate them at a retail location. Once worn-out crocs footwear are received, they are sorted, ground up and made into new recycled shoes.

These recycled shoes are sent to approved non-profit organizations around the world. SolesUnited works with organizations that can assure shoes will be delivered to those who need them. They have donated over 1 million pairs of shoes so far.

You can mail your shoes, if you have some ratty crocs. (We do.)

  • find a participating retailer by ZIP code**
  • or mail your worn-out crocs shoes to:
  • crocs recycling – west
    3375 enterprise ave.
    bloomington, CA 92316
  • crocs recycling – east
    1500 commodity blvd.
    lockbourne, OH 43137

(I think this is pretty cool, although I have to wonder what people think of these crocs when they see them. They are, um, unique looking.)
