Celebrate World Water Day with Surfrider — and a LOST celeb!
Posted by: Siel on March 22nd, 2010
World Water Day’s right around the corner — and a lot of exciting stuff’s happening, for everyone from karaoke fans to LOST devotees to would-be ocean activists, thanks to FilterForGood partner Surfrider Foundation.** And that’s in addition to all the fun World Water Day events** happening across the world on March 22!

First of all, LOST fans can watch a new animated film dubbed “The Cycle of Insanity: The Real Story of Water” — narrated by LOST star Zuleikha Robinson! This film, which is part of Surfrider’s “Know Your H20“** program, focuses on “the various challenges and solutions relating to water management” to delve into the issues behind our use and management of the world’s water resources — and to educate people on what can be done about these issues.
Next comes good news for karaoke fans, of which I’m one. Starting March 22, you’ll be able to enter a watery contest on MySpace (I know — I closed my Myspace account a while back, but that’s where the contest is, not Facebook) to win an all-expense paid trip to California to participate in Surfrider’s Blue Note Karaoke event** on May 6. I hope to attend this fun event, so if you win, I’ll likely see you there! Maybe we can perform a water-inspired duet –
Last but not least: Become a Surfrider Foundation member on March 22,** and you’ll get the special discounted price of $20 ($5 off the regular price). In addition to a one-year membership to Surfrider — which gives you a 1-year subscription’s to Surfrider’s Making Waves, a Surfrider sticker and chapter contact information, and discounts at retailers and restaurants — you’ll also get an organic tote bag or a reusable FilterForGood Nalgene bottle to make your World Water Day — and everyday — free of disposable water bottles.
My World Water Day celebrations will actually start a few days early on March 17, at a Surfrider Foundation meeting educating people about offshore drilling** — and how to stop industry plans to start the ecologically devastating practice again on the California coastline. So — What are you doing on World Water Day? Karaokeing? Video-watching? Share your plans in the comments!
