Students Reducing Bottled Water on Campus
Posted by: FilterForGood on February 18th, 2010
College students continue to be advocates when it comes to reducing bottled water waste! Just in the past few months numerous college campuses have taken strides to ban bottled water on campus and we want to recognize them!
- Two “hydration stations” have been installed at Vanderbilt University,** outside the dining areas in Rand and The Commons, as part of an effort by Vanderbilt Dining and SPEAR to offer a greener alternative to bottled water.
- Across Penn State’s** campus, five “hydration stations” are now up and running for students to fill up their bottles with free water.
- A new student organization at University of Oregon** is gathering signatures in support of a resolution to cut bottled water out of the student government’s budget.
- A student at The University of Massachusetts** created a video, “Swallowed,†which is a social commentary in the form of art, calling out society and big businesses for their use and obsession with buying bottled water.
- The College of William and Mary** Student Assembly passed a bill Tuesday that will help fund a four-day event about sustainability issues surrounding plastic water bottles.
- The University of Portland** is the first college campus on the West Coast to ban the sale of bottled water on campus!
These students are making changes on their campus and we want to do the same. For the second year in a row FilterForGood will give out five $10k grants to students committed to making their campus more sustainable. Check back in the next few weeks to see who these five grant recipients are and the difference they’re making on campus.
In the meantime, let us know what you’re doing on your own campus, in your dorm and in your life to make the world a greener place. Post on our Facebook wall, tell us on Twitter, comment here – we want to hear from you!
