Dasani is tap water — so save money and take back the tap!

Unbeknown to many, 40% of the bottled water sold in stores comes not from pristine mountain tops but from municipal water sources. That’s right — even Dasani water comes from municipal taps.

So why not rename Dasani — and call it Deception?

That’s what the socially progressive pranksters known as The Yes Men** tested out. Best known for impersonating representatives from Dow Chemical, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and many others, The Yes Men this time pretended to be representatives from Coca-Cola, which owns Dasani, and walked around a Boston mall asking people what they thought of rebranding Dasani as Deception.**

The responses are pretty broad. Some people say that they like Deception better than Dasani since the new brand seems more honest about where the water comes from. Others seem skeptical that people will buy a product that basically calls the buyee a dupe.

One thing was clear though: Most people did not know that Dasani water is really just tap water — which is why Deception’s tagline, “The Same Stuff That Comes Out Of Your Faucet,” came as a surprise to many.

Watch the funny video** for a few laughs — and save money by saying no to Deception and filling your reusable water bottle with filtered tap water. After all, you’ll be drinking the same stuff — just paying a lot less!
